As a Data Engineer, you will be responsible for systems used daily by thousands of professionals building a road to space. This position will propel the reliable operation of the company and strengthen the value of analytics and data science in modern aerospace.You will be a member of the Central Analytics and Platform Engineering Group, comprised of Analytics and Insights, Data Science and Application Development, and Data Engineering.The Data Engineering team's mission is to build and maintain data storage and processing systems that empower analytics and data science across the organization. To foster trust, we take ownership for the governance and quality of our data. We act as a force multiplier by providing scalable solutions to common data problems, crafting effective leverage of our data assets.What makes our Data Engineering team successful?

    • Performing the full development lifecycle for automating batch and stream data processing systems, ensuring high-performance, resiliency, and observability
    • Monitoring, maintaining and improving Blue Origin's data pipelines and associated infrastructure, facilitating the greatest possible utilization and trust of our data assets
    • Working with upstream system administrators and downstream business customers to onboard data, ensuring high quality, discoverability, ease of use
    • Establishing ground rules, providing code reviews and upholding the standards for code quality in our stack
    • Creating tools and workflows that empower rapid iteration and repeatable results, and creating support for this toolset with our Analytics Community
    • Participating in a shared on-call rotation monitoring the health of the team's systems
    • Crafting crucial documentation covering usage, maintenance, and troubleshooting of our data platform components
    • Practicing sustainable incident response and blameless postmortemsQualifications:

      • Bachelor's degree in a quantitative field or equivalent experience
      • 2+ years of direct experience developing data pipelines in a production context
      • Understanding and experience with modern software practices such as version control systems, CI/CD workflows, test driven development
      • Strong SQL skills as applied to analytics context
      • Experience with AWS Services, especially Redshift, RDS, EMR, Lambda
      • Proficient with Python
      • Knowledge and direct experience with Docker and container orchestration frameworks such as Kubernetes
      • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion
      • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.Desired:
        • Experience with running & scaling Apache Airflow in production, especially to support self-service analytics workflows
        • Experience ingesting data from a wide variety of sources including NoSQL databases, REST endpoints, etc.
        • Experience with near-real-time data streaming applications
        • Experience with big data processing frameworks such as Apache Spark
        • Knowledge and experience with Linux
        • Familiar with Infrastructure as Code and relevant technologies
        • Familiarity with data warehousing concepts from the Kimball Group
        • Familiar with the manufacturing, PLM tools, and supply chain operations
        • Experience with hierarchical data structures and recursive processing techniques
        • History in Database Administration - emphasis OLAP systems
        • Prior experience delivering results on a Data Lake project
        • Knowledge of implementing Data Quality monitoring and alerting systemsThe expected salary range for the position is displayed in accordance with the Colorado Equal Pay for Equal Work Act.
