Mechanical Apprentice / Firewatch / Hole watch The Mechanical Apprentice / Firewatch / Hole watch supports maintenance, repair, and construction activities by performing mechanical assistance duties and providing critical safety monitoring during hot work and confined space operations. This position plays a key role in maintaining a safe work environment and supporting skilled craftsmen. Other duties may be assigned. Specific Duties and Responsibilities: Assist mechanics, pipefitters, welders, and other trades with maintenance and repair tasks. Perform Firewatch and Hole watch duties during hot work and confined space activities. Monitor work areas for fire hazards, unsafe conditions, and atmospheric changes. Maintain constant communication with supervisors and affected personnel. Ensure compliance with safety permits, procedures, and lockout/tagout requirements. Use basic hand tools, cleaning equipment, and materials as directed. Set up and maintain barricades, signage, and safety equipment. Respond promptly to alarms, incidents, or unsafe conditions and report them immediately. Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area. Other duties as assigned. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required. 2 years' experience as a mechanical helper- such as pipefitting, millwright, welding. Mechanical aptitude or prior industrial experience preferred. Firewatch/Hole watch or confined space experience a plus. Requirements Must have experience hole watching/fire watching Assist other trades and maintenance activities. Must be able to work overtime, nights, weekends, and callâ??ins as needed. Must be able to maintain alertness for extended periods. Must be legally authorized to work in the United States. No sponsorship or visa support available for this position.
