Job Description
The Medical Assistant Intern will work under the supervision of the
MA Education Coordinator. The Medical Assistant Intern will be
trained to provide exceptional medical care that meets each
patient's physical, mental, and emotional needs; provide
administrative/clinical assistance to physicians/mid-level
practitioners/nurses/patients while adhering to a prescribed
treatment plan in accordance with established policies and
procedures. The person in this position works under general
supervision, is responsible for various shifts, may be subject to
over 40 hours per week and/or callback as required, and may also be
required to remain on campus immediately before, during, and after
severe weather and/or disasters. Classes are 22 weeks with 12 weeks
classroom lecture and lab phase and a 10 week lecture and clinical
rotation phase. Students are asked for a commitment of Monday
through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. At the end of the program the
medical Assistant Intern will be required to take the National
Health Career Association (NHA) Medical Assistant Certification
exam.
Responsiblities
The Medical Assistant Intern during clinical rotations will
supervision of a Licensed/Certified professional for Clinical
duties to assist in the delivery of patient care. --- As a direct
care staff, the Intern will spend part of his or her time
interacting with, assisting, and supporting our patients. These
responsibilities may include but are not limited to: assisting with
ambulating and mobilization of patients, aseptic procedures, takes
vital signs, prepares the patients for physician's care, assist
with patient examination or treatment, performs venipunctures and
non-intravenous injections, observes and reports patients' signs or
symptoms, ensures quality metrics are obtain and documented,
administers basic first aid, performs basic laboratory procedures,
collects routine laboratory specimens as directed by the physician,
administers medication as directed by the physician, completes
medication reconciliation, documents patient care, relaying
pertinent information to the practitioner, --- Performs medical
assistant-Intern duties as required including various medical
secretarial, financial bookkeeping and insurance tasks. ---
Operates office medical equipment properly. --- Attends didactics,
labs and clinicals. --- Completes assignments and study for
exams.--- Assist in other duties as assigned to support the
operational needs of the department and organization. --- May be
required to remain on campus immediately before, during, and after
severe weather and/or disasters
Qualifications
6 months Experience in health care Required
BLS for Healthcare Providers (BLS) American Heart Association
within 30 Days Required
**This program is funded in part by a grant through Career
Escarosa. Participants in this training program must be screened
for eligibility for grant funding.
