This assignment places physicians inside one of the largest surgical programs in the Florida Panhandle , supporting a robust anesthesia department across trauma, pediatrics, obstetrics, and complex surgical services. Providers will collaborate with an experienced CRNA team within a structured care team model while maintaining opportunities to personally perform cases across multiple surgical specialties. Opportunity Snapshot Location: Pensacola, Florida Contract Type: Anesthesiologist Locum Tenens Coverage Need: Ongoing Practice Model: Care Team Model EMR: Cerner CRNAs perform cases under medical direction while anesthesiologists supervise and perform their own cases within the department. Approximately 20 percent personally performed anesthesia care by physicians. Facility Overview Major regional referral hospital serving the Gulf Coast 580 hospital beds 40 ICU beds Level I Adult Trauma Center Level I Pediatric Trauma Center 39 anesthetizing locations This surgical program supports tens of thousands of procedures annually , making it one of the most advanced anesthesia environments in the region. Annual procedural volumes include: 13,500 outpatient surgeries 10,700 inpatient surgeries 4,100 ambulatory surgery center cases 1,700 non-OR anesthesia procedures Clinical Case Mix Providers will support a broad tertiary-care surgical program including: General Surgery Orthopedics and Total Joints Bariatric Surgery ENT Spine Surgery Urology Plastics Interventional Radiology Endoscopy Dental / OMFS Trauma surgery Pediatric surgical cases Obstetric anesthesia Additional services include: Major vascular procedures Thoracic surgery Neurosurgery Acute pain service Cardiac anesthesia cases are supported by dedicated cardiac teams. Scheduling Structure Coverage across the anesthesia department includes: Day coverage 7:00 AM – 3:00 PM Extended coverage 3:00 PM – 5:00 PM 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM Night coverage 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM Weekend coverage blocks also available. Call responsibilities may include 12-hour call shifts throughout the week. Candidate Requirements Board Certified Anesthesiologist Active Florida Medical License ACLS and BLS required Experience practicing within a care team anesthesia model preferred Comfort managing complex surgical cases in a trauma center environment Experience with pediatric anesthesia strongly preferred Experience with high-risk obstetric anesthesia preferred Additional Assignment Requirements Providers must reside outside a 45-mile / one-hour radius from the facility to qualify for this assignment.
