Position Overview

Ascend Performance Materials is searching for a Senior Packaging Engineer. The position will be located at our Pensacola, Florida site preferably but can be located at any of our US locations. In this role you will be responsible for creating a competitive advantage to Ascend Performance Materials by optimizing packaging throughout the organization. The Senior Packaging Engineer will work closely with internal/external customers, the commercial group, operations and supply chain to determine true packaging requirements and cost to serve. Drives for highest value and standardization across all manufacturing plants.

Main Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with business units and group functions to identify opportunities to develop and support strategic initiatives that result in value creation and packaging standardization across Ascend.

  • Functions as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for packaging design and selection of packaging type for internal and external customers with aim to optimize safety, quality, performance and usage.

  • Works closely with company and site procurement teams to identify synergies.

  • Conducts customer and plant assessments for continuous improvement.

  • Create and maintain packaging specifications for all Ascend Manufacturing Plants.

  • Provide technical support and advice for internal and external customers with aim to optimize product-specification

  • Be creative and cost-efficient in all design solutions, with a clear understanding of various packaging production capabilities

  • Function as packaging SME for packaging design, failure analysis, root cause analysis, defining and implementing corrective and preventive action plans in cooperation with suppliers and plants.

  • Act as technical lead and collaborate with global teams for packaging within Ascend and other sourcing partner companies

  • Works cross-functionally to influence change in areas with no direct responsibility


  • Bachelors degree in Engineering or Industrial Engineering

  • Minimum 5 years post graduate experience in production operations

  • Strong knowledge of basic manufacturing plants and packaging processes such as bagging, boxing and bulk loading


  • Strong communication skills both oral and written required

  • Familiarity of regulatory requirements pertaining to industrial packaging is preferred

  • The ability to influence and persuade individuals at all levels of the organization to gain support for key initiatives.

  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, with minimal supervision.

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to organize diverse information, analyze and resolve disputes

  • Understand internal customer requirements, make independent decisions, and display strong interpersonal and communication skills with individuals at all levels

  • Ability to perform as an individual contributor, while working in global teams

  • Must be able to travel up to 25% or as needed

  • Strong analytical skills

  • SAP experience preferred
