Job Description:
Job Overview
A Sewing Operator is a member of the Manufacturing Team and is
responsible for completion of production items & goals that support
the manufacturing department.
Job Descriptions
Completes a combination of the sewing functions required to
assemble the raw materials for the manufacture of the parachutes
and/or related parts, in a reasonable period and in accordance with
company quality standards. This position generally requires a
skilled operator comfortable working with difficult, awkward
materials and capable of using standard measuring tools. Daily
duties will include the operation of any or all of the following
sewing/other machines, both manual and computer driven automatic:
all size of gauges, single/multi needle, bartackers, zigzag
machines.
Responsibilities and Duties
Operate production equipment to create items by approved methods
and processes successfully
Interpret/read Manufacturing Work Instruction (MWI), Inspection
Checklists (IC)
Read and interpret MIL-STD, work specification sheets, and
drawings.
Ability to effectively use verification tools (ruler, tape measure
and stitch gages & etc)
Maintain equipment properly performing required Preventive
Maintenance (PM)
Ability to work in a team environment
Pin, mark, trim and do any required preparation work on raw
material assemblies.
Ability to cut all types of textile material using a wide range of
cutting tools (scissors, auto cutting devices, hot knife, &
etc.).
Sew all raw materials, including support tapes and webbing.
Perform all daily routine maintenance and adjustments on sewing
machines.
Complete all required paperwork and recordkeeping.
Assist as needed in the training of new operators.
Performs other related duties as required or assigned.
Follows company rules and procedures.
Must be able to independently lift up to 35 pounds
Qualifications
Must be US citizen or Permanent Resident (Export Control
requirement)
High School degree or equivalent Preferred: High School Diploma or
equivalent
Ability to comprehend, carry out written drawing instructions in
English.
Be able to perform the physical demands of the job.
Must be able to clear see small threads
Must be able to identify colors
Experience
Industrial sewing machine operation experience
Capable of using standard measuring tools.
Pass the sample sewing tests.
Military Experience as an 92R, 921A, Rigger (Navy, Air Force,
Marine, Army) (with an Honorable Discharge)
Training Requirements On the job training: Up to one (1) month,
including progressing at an acceptable and measurable skill level
rate. Work Environment The work environment for this job is a
manufacturing shop floor. The noise level is usually moderate due
to sewing machines and traffic. This position requires frequent
walking as well as sitting or standing for long periods of time at
sewing machine, cutting table, or an inspection point.
Additionally, the position may require lifting and/or pulling
moderate to heavy items. Physical Demands The position requires
that the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, talk, see
and hear. The employee is frequently required to use hands to
fingers such as with a keyboard. The employee well be required to
sit/stand; walk; reach with hands and arms. The employee must
regularly lift and/or move up to 35 pounds. Specific vision
abilities include close distance, and color vision and the ability
to adjust focus.
