OverviewSavings and Membership (SMD) Data Governance falls within the Project Systems and Technology team in the Savings and Membership department. The team's mission is to drive data excellence by maximizing the value of data as a reliable and trusted business asset and to promote responsible data management by ensuring data is well managed and data risk is reduced. Areas of focus include:Empowering SMD to leverage data assets into effective business insightsPartnering with key stakeholders to enable data management capabilities across SMD and reduce data riskDriving accountability and ownership of enterprise data assetsBuilding transparency and auditability into policies, practices, and processesMeasuring program and business value and report on data risksBased on the SMD Data Governance 2023 Road Map, some of the projects that the team will continue to work on in 2024 are:Continuing to build our Metadata collection for highly prioritized SMD systemsBuilding our SMD system architecture, how do systems talk to each otherIdentifying data errors, patterns, and trends to answer business questions and improve decision-makingPerforming validation checks for business unit reports and dashboards during cloud transitionPerforming complex analytical statistical modeling and visualizations on large data sets to support various business operations and organizational objectivesThe Summer Associate Program is a 12-week internship program beginning in May 2024 and ending in August 2024. Students will work on impactful projects and meaningful work during their internship. To qualify for this position, applicants must be currently pursuing a degree from an accredited college or university and have an anticipated graduation date of December 2024 or later.ResponsibilitiesSupport Business Data Stewards in documenting data dictionariesSupport the technical aspects of the business area's data catalog from the perspective of planning, implementing, and testing bug fixes, new features, and upgrades, implementing new taxonomy properties, templates, and processesSupport continuous improvements in data quality, classification, metadata evaluation, and exporting/importing data processesSupport technical data stewards in documenting the lineage of data from creation to output, ensuring that the information is useable and meets the business needsEnable data lineage collection and visualization at various granularities to be able to provide insights on the data flows between the various producers and consumers of business area dataQualificationsCurrently pursuing a graduate degree in Information Systems, Business Analytics, Data Science, Analytics, or other related degreeExposure to scripting languages (Python, R, etc.)Experience with SQLExperience with data visualization (PowerBI, Tableau)Knowledge of cloud technologies (Databricks, Microsoft Azure)Excellent communication and presentation skillsExperience working with ambiguous problemsCurious and excited to collaborate with various business unitsHours: Monday - Friday, 8:00AM - 4:30PMLocation: Remote - 820 Follin Ln, Vienna, VA 22180 - 5550 Heritage Oaks Dr, Pensacola, FL 32526 - 141 Security Dr, Winchester, VA 22602Navy Federal is now hybrid!
